Staff members have the opportunity to show their appreciation for each other through our Shout Out Board, Staff Celebrations' Slideshow, and Educator of the Year/Educational Service Professional of the Year programs. All of these opportunities assist in fostering a positive work environment.

Lisa Townes Mrs. Townes is a very talented educator and she has done amazing things with the students she teaches. Mrs. Townes motivates and cares about helping her students achieve goals, which is obvious when you see how much they grow as learners. She is certainly patient and nurturing.
Many of her students have diverse learning needs, and in the small amount of time she has them, Mrs. Townes is able to help them achieve their set goals. Her teaching looks seamless, even with this variety of needs she must attend to. Mrs. Townes often incorporates multisensory activities that help keep the students engaged. Mrs. Townes has always sought ways to incorporate all students into her class so that they are seen as equals by their peers, despite their classification or difficulty in the educational setting. She sets clear expectations for all students and supports them in a way to encourage success, not just in second grade, but in life. Mrs. Townes demonstrates her care for each child each day. She cares for the whole child, addressing not only their academic growth, but all areas of development appropriate for their growth as productive, responsible, and caring members of society. Mrs. Townes has demonstrated her commitment to the students and staff by chairing and co-chairing the diversity committee. She is instrumental in bringing quality programing to our school that is appropriate for the various levels of both age and development. This has become increasingly more important given the climate that we live in and the diversity of our school and community. Mrs. Townes represents what a modern teacher should embody. She is a creative teacher who tries to meet every student at their level. Mrs. Townes uses best practices that are not only research-based, but based on twenty-one years of experience in a variety of educational settings. She learns new materials and curricula and immediately implements them into her classroom. She adds her own flare and will supplement any shortcomings with her own tried and true methods. For years, Mrs. Townes has been entrusted with teaching both general and special education students. Her unique gifts allow these students to work together seamlessly. That is why every student in her class makes progress. In addition to being a fantastic academic instructor, Mrs. Townes spends many hours each year teaching her students skills that are important in life. She emphasizes respect, self-control, empathy, and responsibility for oneself and the community in which one lives and works. Mrs. Townes also inspires many teachers to achieve their own goals. Mrs. Townes has guided many new teachers throughout her career and has worked cooperatively with her colleagues. She has spent countless hours collaborating with the special education, special area, and related services professionals. She is a “go-to” person for solid, realistic advice. In addition, Mrs. Townes knows when to seek out assistance and counsel herself. Mrs. Townes is a leader in her community as well. She was recently awarded the Gloucester County NAACP’s Community Game Changer Award in recognition of her accomplishments and achievements in education. In closing, Mrs. Townes has earned this award because she demonstrates outstanding communication, leadership, innovation, and collaboration skills. Gina Doyle Mrs. Doyle is an amazing teacher who is dedicated to engaging her students in the classroom learning environment. Her students enjoy participating in hands-on units of study about ancient civilizations and she does her best to incorporate technology into the classroom through a variety of webquests and websites. Students also have the opportunity to collaborate through group projects such as constructing ziggurats when we studied ancient Mesopotamia, and learning about the mummification process through our study of ancient Egypt. Last year our students even had the opportunity to participate in a Pen Pal Exchange with Chinese students for several months. Through the program, students exchanged postcards, pictures, and videos and learned more about each other’s cultures. Gina also assists with the implementation of our Too Good for Drugs Program.
In addition to all that she does in the classroom, Mrs. Doyle is active in the school community, as a member of the Character Education and School Safety committee, she volunteered her time to chalk the sidewalks with inspirational messages for the first day of school and helped enhance our current Character Counts program. She has also attended school board meetings as a representative from the Character Education committee to honor Buzzworthy students. She is always there to listen and lend a helping hand when needed. This past summer she also worked alongside the School Safety Team to update and enhance our Hornet Code of Conduct. She supports her students by attending extracurricular activities such as baseball and basketball games, has helped collect canned goods at our Hoops for Soup charity basketball game, recently participated in our Character Counts Family Feud assembly, and was PRIDE chair for EGEA, in which she helped plan our Family Give-A-Gift night to support local families in need and a current member of the Negotiations’ Team. Mrs. Doyle does an amazing job collaborating with her colleagues in the co-teach learning environment. Her passion for education is evident in all that she does and we are lucky to have her in our district. Barbara Harris,

Grant Winners Both Jeffrey Clark and Samuel Mickle Schools have been awarded with multiple grants over the years. Most recently, Jeffrey Clark School is thrilled to be a recipient of a POWER Foundation grant, provided by POWER Engineers! The POWER Foundation believes in providing children with exposure to the fun of science and technology. The funding provided through our POWER Foundation grant will be used to bring a mobile STEAM Museum to the Jeffrey Clark School on June 18 & June 19. The STEAM Museum includes opportunities for students to have personal experiences with science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Some of the activities provided through the STEAM Museum are: building an arch, programming a robot, utilizing a bike generator, and experimenting with friction. Following the STEAM museum, we will survey our students for their opinions on their experiences so that we may create future programs that bring STEAM to Clark.
In addition, Samuel Mickle School was one of 20 New Jersey Public Schools awarded the BASF grant for $5,000 to support science education programs in connection to technology, engineering, and math initiatives. The grant will be used to fund innovative and creative projects for our students in an effort to inspire students to view science, technology, engineering, and math as possible career opportunities for the future. We are honored to receive both grants and look forward to the enrichment opportunities that the grants will provide for our students! |
