Showing EXCELLENT CHARACTER is a UNIFIED EFFORT
in East Greenwich Township Schools
Code of ConductThe East Greenwich School District’s Code
of Conduct is aligned with our mission statement. Our mission statement exemplifies our goal to provide a safe and secure learning environment. The Code of Conduct promotes positive climate and culture to ensure the meeting of our district’s behavioral expectations. A student-friendly version of our code known as the HORNETS' Code, highlights character education as a primary component in driving our school climate, culture, and behavioral expectations. The HORNETS' Code states behavior expectations for the classroom, hallway, lunch room, recess, bathroom, bus, special events such as assemblies and trips, and events in the community. |
Character TraitsRespect, Kindness, Responsibility, Acceptance, Integrity, and Perseverance are the primary traits that we have structured our Character Education program around. Students are introduced to these traits at the beginning of the year and the traits continue to be infused through the Daily Dose of Character on the Morning Announcements, as themes in units of study, during lunch through our Golden Tray and Recycling Challenge initiatives. The traits act as the pillars of our program and are visible in the classrooms, hallways, and cafeteria.

CurriculumOur Character Education program provides an integration of curriculum from the Second Step and Steps to Respect programs, character slides and activities developed by the Character Education Committee, lessons developed by Ms. Kuhen, Mrs. Weston, Mrs. Lombardo and the Interdisciplinary Committee, and a variety of activities that are infused into our grade level curriculum maps through Language Arts, Literacy, Writing, Social Studies, Science, Art, Music, Library, Spanish, and PE/Health. Our curriculum reflects the 11 Principles of Character Education, the National Character Education Initiative, and the East Greenwich Township School District's Strategic Plan while fostering leadership, civic education, and service learning opportunities for our students and staff.

School Board meetings. Buzzworthy students are also highlighted in the monthly newsletter, on the morning announcements, and their pictures are displayed in the Buzzworthy showcase in each building and have the opportunity to assist with a variety of leadership activities throughout the year. |
