Character Education CurriculumCharacter development can be enhanced by teachers and other caring adults in a variety of ways, including: modeling appropriate behavior, instilling the habits of civility and kindness, using polite words, recognizing role models and appreciating good deeds, creating a climate of moral and social excellence, participating in school and community service opportunities and having students reflect on the impact of their actions.
At East Greenwich Township Schools:
Our Character Education program provides an integration of curriculum from the Second Step and Steps to Respect programs, character slides and activities developed by the Character Education Committee, lessons developed by Ms. Kuhen, Mrs. Weston, Mrs. Lombardo and the Interdisciplinary Committee, and a variety of activities that are infused into our grade level curriculum maps through Language Arts, Literacy, Writing, Social Studies, Science, Art, Music, Library, Spanish, and PE/Health. Our curriculum reflects the 11 Principle of Character Education, the National Character Education Initiative, and the East Greenwich Township School District's Strategic Plan while fostering leadership, civic education, and service learning opportunities for our students and staff.

Push-In Character Lessons
In addition to the Character Education lessons that are infused into the content area curriculum and the Second Step/Steps to Respect class period each week, Ms. Kuhen collaborated with homeroom teachers and visited classes several times throughout the 2017-18 school year to conduct team building lessons/activities with students in grades Pre-K through 6. The lessons built upon each other, promoting a positive and supportive learning community. The push-in lessons included Individually Unique, Together Complete, The Star Project, The Power of Words, Your Digital Footprint & Cyber-Bullying, Communication is Key, The Power of One: Being an Upstander, and Peer Pressure & Making Positive Choices.
